The NINE

“Most of us are familiar with the alternative history of the creation of the World in six days, described in the Bible. Science was able to calculate how many billions of human years are laid down in the divine week, and if we continue the anti-scientific approach in counting, we will have the eighth day of creation, and we are moving towards the ninth. Why the ninth?

Everyone knows that eight is a number symbolizing infinity, but at some point, the infinite comes to an end and the literary concept of the big bang begins, the idea of an end and a beginning at the same time: Richard Bach precisely defined this phenomenon with the phrase: “What the caterpillar calls the end of the world, The Master calls it a butterfly. “

In other words, worldly harmony sets in, the fading of nature, where we can only distinguish the horizon separating the land from the endless ocean: blazing at sunset, turning pink at sunrise, and dying in darkness.

9 circles is a figure chosen for a reason because in nature it is difficult to find squares and rectangles familiar to the human eye, which form the basis of our life. Initially, the artist was content with a plane, on which a three-dimensional world was created on a rectangular canvas, while the photographer looks into a round lens (despite the 200-century history of the camera, the lens is still round in shape!) And conveys a different picture of the world.

The exhibition is conceived in such a way that you find yourself in the space of the aircraft’s virtual windows. I, like most of my contemporaries, love science fiction and am inspired by technological progress. At 9, I would like to convey the moment of creation to the viewer. Dostoevsky has a wonderful phrase: “You are just beginning to think, but thoughts are already beginning to live” – he means that thoughts begin to live their own life, often transforming in the process of realization. This is a wonderful inner feeling when we just think about what we want to create, and in dreams, of course, our fantasies have no boundaries, no limits, just like the illusion in my works of an endless horizon.

Another important thought in this project is a reflection of the theory of relativity put forward by Einstein, according to which massive objects cause the curvature of space-time. If you put a heavy ball on top of the canvas, it will push the canvas a little. So the images of the planet in these works push through the canvas of space-time around them. And here is the result – works of art without specifying the place and time of day, year, or even century.

The intuition of a modern Odyssey led me to shoot this project in Florida because here the endless ocean intersects with the Nasa station! And as the captain of the ship, I inform the passengers about the imminent landing on an unknown planet, they look through the aircraft window, already feel the water overboard the airliner, but see only the horizon, feeling a growing desire to be on Novaya Zemlya, to leave the comfort zone under the number “8 ”And go to the number“ 9 ”- which means in numerology the concept of Return (perhaps we have a short memory and we were here ???) and since we do not remember, this is the beginning of a new Odyssey for you and me! Good luck!!!
